Mark the date people; Canberra will be hosting its very own grappling tournament on August 8th 2010! Hosted by the Australian Martial Arts Championships at the Australian Institute of Sport this grappling tournament will be part of a larger event featuring continuous full contact sparring, point sparring, forms, weapons demonstrations and more.
This tournament will be run using a round robin format so competitors will be able to take part in multiple bouts regardless of whether they win, lose or draw. The price is good too – only $35 – especially when you consider that the normal cost of competing includes travelling to Sydney or Melbourne.
For this first tournament the entries are limited to male and female white belt level competitors only but future events will include blue belt level competitors and other senior divisions.
You can download an entry form by right clicking here and selecting ”save as” and you can contact AMAC by emailing ACT@AMAChampionships.com or calling Doug Turnbull on 0414 600 439.
To enter the grappling tournament simply write “grappling” in the divisions box and “$35” next to the total cost.
We’ve been trying for years to set up a grappling tournament in Canberra so please give it your support and get your entries in as soon as possible. Spectators are more than welcome and can get in for a small fee on the day.
If you haven’t seen a grappling tournament before here’s the highlights from the last Sydney comp Elements Jiu Jitsu entered.
